Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us at christina@southwestchildandfamilytherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

If you plan to use insurance and you believe Christina is in-network, please consult with your insurance regarding your co-pay or rate. Every plan is different, and it is your responsibility to know yours. When speaking with your insurance, you are able to confirm whether or not Christina is in-network, being aware that sometimes mental health services are not covered by insurance plans. Even if you have the insurance plan Christina offers, your plan may not cover all services, and you are responsible for anything not covered by your insurance plan. It is rare that issues arise, but they may, and it is important for you as a consumer to be well-informed.

Otherwise, please refer to my Fees page, which outlines costs for different services.

It depends. In the initial intake appointment, Christina meets with parents only (no children present). This allows us to discuss freely the child's and family's history as well as current needs.

After that, Christina typically meets with children one-on-one and has parent sessions every 4-6 sessions, depending on needs. Parents may always update with emails between sessions, and this is actually encouraged.

Sometimes, due to a child's age, attachment needs, or presenting issues, family therapy may be indicated, and parents would be present for the majority of sessions. Regardless, parents can expect to be included throughout the therapy process, regardless of age or needs.

Each session is about 50 minutes.

Duration of therapy typically lasts 3-6 months per presenting concern.

In some cases, treatment can last longer if needs are higher and/or sessions are inconsistent.

Christina typically meets with children in person. Virtual sessions are only held in place of in-person sessions for extenuating circumstances.

Parent sessions may be held virtually or in person.
