I work with children and adolescents, ages 0-17 years old.

Absolutely. I strongly collaborate with parents throughout the therapy process, beginning at intake. Depending on presenting issues and potential relational needs, ongoing sessions may involve individual sessions with child, parent sessions without child, family sessions, or some combination of these.

I have been told by many clients that their work with previous therapists included sending their child back with the therapist and never truly knowing what was going on. Contrary to this approach, I update and collaborate with parents throughout the therapy process. I encourage email updates prior to sessions, but I am always happy to touch base at the beginning of sessions. While I have many tools and strategies to support your child, it is a team effort.

Due to the age of the children I work with, weekly therapy sessions are initially recommended. Young children often need higher frequency to stay on track with progress and processing. Once substantial changes have occurred and been maintained for a period of time, sessions can then reduce to bi-weekly appointments until discharge is appropriate.

This will depend on many factors. Minor concerns, with high parental involvement and support, may benefit from 3-6 months of services. When there are multiple presenting issues and/or extenuating factors, services may take longer. My goal is always to support children and families reach their goals and to discharge from services.
